Gulzar Saeed Ahmed1 ABSTRACT Objective: Function and appearance of the involved hand in patients with cerebral palsy can be improved by orthopedic surgery especially in spastic hamiplegia. Flexor carpi unlnaris transfer to extensor carpi radialis longus or bravis is a procedure commonly used for correction of flexion pronation deformity of hand in patients with cerebral palsy. Patients and Methods: Twenty patients with the mean age 7.5 years were selected for the procedure. Eight patients were in Zancolli class I, and 12 were in Zancolli class II. Green & Banks technique was used. Results: Seventeen out of twenty patients had good functional improvement and cosmetic appearance. There parents were satisfied with the results. In three patients functional improvement and cosmetic appearance was fair but parents were not satisfied with the results. Conclusion: Green and Banks procedure is good for cerebral palsy patients with moderate flexion pronation deformity at wrist. Functional and cosmetic appearance of hand improves considerably with this procedure.

Selective release of the flexor origin with transfer of flexor carpi ulnaris in cerebral palsy.
Transfer of flexor carpi ulnaris combined with selective release of the flexor pronator origin was undertaken in 35 patients with hemiplegic cerebral palsy for a pronation flexion deformity of the forearm, hand and wrist. The patients were divided into four groups depending on the severity of the deformity, the surgical procedure recommended, potential hand function and prognosis. The procedure...

OBJECTIVE Analize data on patients submitted to transfer of the pronator teres (PT) or the flexor carpi ulnaris (FCB) to the extensor carpi radialis longus/brevis (ECRL/B) in order to correct flexed wrist deformity in patients with cerebral palsy. METHOD Patients were divided into two groups: PT group and FCU group to ECRL/B. The results were evaluated by goniometry and by the functional hand...
متن کاملAn objective functional evaluation of the flexor carpi ulnaris set of triple tendon transfer in radial nerve palsy.
This study reports an objective assessment of postoperative function of 11 triple transfers for high radial palsies, using pronator teres for wrist extension, flexor carpi ulnaris for finger extension and palmaris longus for thumb extension. The mean follow-up was 3.3 years. Assessment was done by recording the active ranges of wrist motion, grip strength, wrist and finger strength and work sim...

The use of tendon transfer to restore functions of extremities was initially recognised in the 19th century, and its advancement was further amplified by the polio epidemic towards the turn of that century. Tendon transfer surgery extended to the use for traumatic reconstructive surgery during World War I, with key surgical pioneers, including Mayer, Sterling Bunnell, Guy Pulvertaft and Joseph ...
متن کاملFlexor carpi ulnaris transfer successfully used to gain strengthening of flexor digitorum superficialis tendons.
Transfer of the flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU) to replace the power of the paralysed extensor digitorum communis and extensor pollicies longus has been described in the literature. However the use of FCU for strengthening flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) is relatively not widely known. In this report the use of the technique is dicussed to successfully restore the strength of the fingers of a l...
